The Instituto Cervantes of Albuquerque deeply regrets the passing of Ángel González (Oviedo, 1925- Madrid, 2008) one of the most influential Spanish poets of his generation. Ángel was a professor at the University of New Mexico from 1972 to 1993 leaving profound literary and individual impact on the city of Albuquerque. González received many awards for his poetry including the Prince of Asturias Literature Prize and the Queen Sofia Prize for Latin American Poetry. He was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Language (R. A. E.) and was honored on two occasions in 2005 and 2007 by the Instituto Cervantes of Albuquerque in recognition of his career.
